The reconstruction was rendered necessary by the largely deteriorated state of the bridge, and the plan to expand the number of railway tracks from six to eight. The crossing angle of the railway tracks and road carriageway is unusually small: just 40 degrees. Consequently, designers opted for a two-support through-type arch bridge covering the 85-m-long span with three 12-m-high steel arches. The new design is set to transform the appearance of the crossing point completely.
We have only seven (!) months to complete the job, requiring utmost care on this very tight work site. Demolition of the old bridge and construction of the steel superstructure are to be performed by colleagues from Közgép Zrt., while Colas was assigned with building the substructure and the adjoining reinforced concrete retaining wall, including earthworks and road construction.
