Following an offer from Profi Bagger Kft. and Wirtgen Budapest Kft., we had the chance to master the operation of Bomag’s intelligent compaction system called Asphalt Manager and Hamm’s HCQ Navigator satellite-based documentation application as part of single-day trainings. The workshops were held at Bécsi Road on two occasions – 18 February and 4 March.

During the combined training and demonstration programme, the instructors outlined the general compaction technologies for asphalt surfaces, going on to explain the advantages of using the HCQ (Hamm Compaction Quality) Navigator, and ways to improve the quality of asphalt installation.

The total number of participants amounted to 60, since the installation and proper compaction of asphalt mixtures concerns the responsibility of several fields within the construction process. On behalf of Colas Út, Colas Hungária’s Major Projects Division and Technology Directorate, regional managers, site managers, foremen, roller operators, equipment specialists, technologists, unit managers and lab assistants were among the audience.

As a special feature, Hamm’s training focussed on the Navigator application and recording of the HCV compaction value. In addition, the types of applied rollers and dynamic compaction methods were also introduced, and we received the “ten commandments” recommended for roller operators. The demonstration of Profi-Bagger was centred around Bomag’s Asphalt Manager system, but topics also covered other practical aspects, such as the details of load bearing, compaction, free void volume, as well as the properties of stable- and unstable asphalts.
