The Sió lock (Sió-zsilip) — one of the most important water level control structures of Lake Balaton near Siófok — has undergone a full-scale, comprehensive reconstruction in recent years. During the works, the ship lock, the water discharge structure, and the connected canal section were all renewed, creating a modern, high-capacity, and safe water management system.

The project was implemented by a consortium of STRABAG Construction and Colas Alterra, fundamentally modernising Lake Balaton’s water management while also strengthening environmental and community aspects.

🏆 The development won the Construction Excellence Award (Építőipari Nívódíj) in the Environmental and Water Management Facilities category, one of the most prestigious professional recognitions in the industry. It is awarded to outstanding technical and construction achievements that have a long-term impact on the country’s infrastructure.

On April 28, our colleagues ceremonially received the award, which acknowledges the result of several years of coordinated professional work by Colas Alterra and its partners. The project is not only an engineering achievement, but also an investment that helps secure the future of Lake Balaton’s water management.
