Construction of a pilot section on road No 8104
The aim of the research project was the application-oriented development of a non-traditional asphalt mix, which is able to meet as many of the following needs as possible:
– reduce noise pollution,
– has a traffic safety function,
– aesthetics and environmental integration.
The research has focused on the development of a low-noise asphalt mix that has a physiological impact on the vicinity of roads and helps to reduce traffic noise levels, and whose sound-absorbing capacity has been optimised by impedance tube testing under laboratory conditions. This allowed the noise reduction potential of several potential base material types and mix compositions to be measured. The asphalt mixture mix developed in this way was tested in a pilot phase, where it confirmed the results of the laboratory measurements and has more favourable operational characteristics compared to conventional pavements with this function.
Asphalt mixtures for road safety or to prevent heat islands were tested for products that, in addition to their primary use characteristics, also had aesthetic or attention-grabbing properties as secondary parameters.
