Subsidies

Project name: Development of asphalt mixtures with longer life spans by using special additives at Colas Hungária Zrt.

Project description:

Colas Hungária Zrt. has been awarded 88.12 million forints of non-refundable support from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund under the subsidy programme named “Supporting R+D activities of businesses”. The research is devoted to developing asphalt mixtures having longer life spans compared to the currently known and used mixtures by using special additives.

As part of the research, Colas Hungária Zrt. is performing laboratory experiments to establish the optimal composition of ingredients, and subsequently, finalises the mixture through trial mixings. Finally, trial sections are to be built in order to verify the suitability of the mixture and to fine-tune the installation procedure. The theme of the research fits right into international trends, where the objective is to build asphalt pavements with a life cycle of 20-30 years by developing the required asphalt mixtures. As an ultimate objective, production technologies are to be developed in a way that does not require the implementation of new high-value investments.

The developments conducted by Colas Hungária Zrt. is directly linked to the industrial priorities of Sustainable environment, Receptive and Sustainable society and Liveable environment. The objective serves the requirements of eco-friendliness, as well as the concepts of sustainable development and sustainable construction.

The scheme is being carried out in Pest County, and results are expected to unify the fields of construction and state-of-the-art material technologies.

Beneficiary: Colas Hungária Építőipari Zrt., 1113 Budapest, Bocskai út 73.

Supporting organisation: National Research, Development and Innovation Office, 1077 Budapest, Kéthly Anna tér 1.

Project name: Introduction of energy-efficient road construction technologies at Colas Hungária Zrt.

Project description:

The Technology Directorate is implementing a 100-million-forint research and development project with 25 million forints of backing.

The Colas Hungária Technology Directorate submitted an application for a subsidy as part of the Territorial Development Operational Programme under the “Support for innovation implemented by companies” programme. The application, which covers a two-year-long R+D programme, was selected for backing by the governing authority. Supported activity: development, production and testing of asphalt-technological products, procedures and services, including the marketing activities (conference, PR) serving the market introduciton of the new/developed products, technologies and/or services.

Our chief objective concerns the reduction of energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Subsequent to comparing the technical parameters of asphalt mixtures created in Hungary and abroad for reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions, we evaluated the various technologies. Being aware of the results, we became able to select the types of modification for each asphalt mixture as early as the design phase. As a result, we are able to calculate the exact reduction in temperatures and energy consumption on urban roads under significant traffic loads, motorways, main roads and B-roads.
