2018. 11. 14..
The recent race was not the first time our sites provided the backdrop for a special competition: following last year’s extreme footrace at Tállya, another Colas Északkő plant, the Szob andesite mine, hosted a similar sporting event on 12-13 November 2018. The venue is of the essence in case of the Minekraft Challenge, as the uniqueness of the race comes from the monumental, almost lunar landscape of the quarry, which provides not only an astonishing scenery, but a special treat for extreme sport aficionados as well. Organisers awaited the entries in three separate events: running, mountain bike, and cyclocross. MK-RUN is a trail running contest made difficult by various obstacles, such as barriers, ramps, climbing nets and gigantic pieces of machinery. In addition to overcoming the harsh conditions, such races attract runners as an ultimate test of endurance and tenacity. The MK-MTB event is a one-of-its-kind mountain bike race, which combines tarmac and extreme terrain conditions on a distance of 10 kilometres. One of this year’s new features, cyclocross, forces the riders to dismount and carry their bikes at some points of the course, putting the emphasis on stamina and agility. The first Minekraft Challenge saw a total of 32 runners and 12 riders take to the start line, including our colleagues Éva Bán, Gergő Kelem, Lajos Király, Evelin Rajcsányi-Posch (running), and Tamás Tóth (MTB). Congratulations to everyone for tackling the course!
