Colas was the first in Central Europe to construct WMA trial pavements with foamed bitumen. One of the ways of carrying out the WMA procedure is by applying foamed bitumen. Through implementing this method, we are able to decrease the production temperature (thus saving energy) or, alternatively, the distance from the asphalt production site to the construction site can be increased. The foaming technique allows us to keep mixing and paving temperatures between 100-140 °C, resulting in a 20-40 °C decrease compared to conventional mixing and laying temperatures.
