As a long-running custom, the annual Miners’ Day plays a special role in the life of Colas Északkő. The central event of the 65th Miners’ Day was organised in Hajdúszoboszló on 3 September 2015, and the celebration took place in the presence of Minister of State Andrea Beatrix Kádár from the Ministry of National Development, who emphasised in her speech that the industry looks back to centuries of traditions, and its crucial role is still indubitable when it comes to the safety of supply, therefore the Hungarian government will continue to support mining and the safeguarding of the sector’s traditions. The awards donated by the Minister of National Development – honouring the most devoted mining professionals – were also presented during the event. The manager of Colas Északkő’s Szob and Kesztölc plants, János Krizsanyik, received the Minister’s Certificate of Excellence, while a machine operator from our Recsk quarry, András Bodnár, went home with the Distinguished Miner award.
Hungarian mining companies celebrated the Miners’ Day jubilee in Dorog on 4 September 2015, where the National Quarrying Memorial was unveiled. Ministerial Commissioner Attila Kasó and György Popovics, the chairman of the Komárom-Esztergom County assembly, attended the event as honorary bishop Dr. János Székely blessed the memorial. Following the initiative of the Hungarian Mining and Metallurgical Society, Baumit Kft. erected the memorial from materials donated by several Hungarian mining firms, including stone from the Nógrádkövesd and Szob quarries of Colas Északkő Kft.
Colas Északkő Kft. celebrates the tradition of Miners’ Day with all of its employees. As part of the festivities, plant managers recognise thework of colleagues giving the best job performance within the previous year. In 2015, plant manager János Krizsanyik commended plant administrator Ilona Bábáné Kelemen in the company’s Szob facility. The event held at Tarcal saw colleagues József Bekényi and András Varga awarded by manager Dezső Béres. Miners’ Day was celebrated in Tállya on 4 September, and manager József Erdei decorated machine operators László Szoták and Zoltán Kamarási, as well as quality controller Sándor Gribovszky, for their devoted work in the past year. The joint event for facilities managed by István Kovács was held at Gyöngyössolymos, where Recsk-based employee Gyula Fejes received a certificate for mining service.
